Made for Manchester

The bags were display at the Craft Centre in Manchester as part of the Asian Triennial. Proceeds from the sales will go to the makers in India, contact me if you would like a bag £10 each plus £1.50 postage. The bags are made from khadi cloth, woven according to Ghandi’s principals, khadi means cotton, it is Indian handspun and hand-woven cloth.

Khadi is a whole movement started by Gandhi. It aimed at boycotting foreign goods and promoting Indian goods, thereby improving India’s economy. Ghandi began promoting the spinning of khadi for rural self-employment and self-reliance (instead of using cloth manufactured industrially in Britain)
