This early work from the 1980s is still important to me as a form of tactile social history. These small fragmentary pieces document my move from a small village in Yorkshire to student life in the capital. They are vignettes of working-class life, capturing markets and street scenes in Yorkshire and South London.

  My new book, Connecting Threads tactile social history brings together twelve of my textile projects produced between 1981 and 2024. These social history documents provide tactile evidence of untold stories, people and places through stitch and the work is both personal and political.
