Connecting Threads – tactile social history – new publication Jan 25

Connecting Threads brings together 12 of my textile projects that took place between 1981 and 2024. These social history documents provide tactile evidence of untold stories, people and places through stitch. My wide-ranging body of work is both personal and political.

The work ranges from tiny colourful hand embroidered fragments, which record everyday life in South London and Yorkshire, to monumental site-specific banners made with construction workers in the north of England.

Many of my large-scale projects and commissions involve local communities and groups to physically produce the pieces.

Together, my works describe a life in stitch including some of the hurdles and benefits of working together .

The publication encompasses themes of identity and belonging, health and wellbeing, sustainability, community cohesion and social inequality, and offers sensory testaments of life today. Order your very own copy to enjoy.
