Global Connections is my repurposed quilt for the British Textile Biennial. It was part of the 62 Group exhibition at the Whitaker Gallery, Rawtenstall running from Oct – Nov 2021.
The quilt was made by hand and incorporated cloth from over 20 countries. It was made with local community groups in Rossendale and Manchester and highlights both the widespread reach and connectivity of cloth. Made from over 1200 circles of repurposed fabric, it was constructed over six months including during workshops at the Whitaker, and groups donated fabrics to the project.
Thanks to MMU graduates Harinder Kooner and Meghan Darby for help with the workshops.
Countries represented include England, Japan, India, Pakistan Bangladesh, Rwanda, Uganda, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Palestine and Morocco.
